FAQs
Behavior Consulting
Q: Do I need a consultation before starting other services?
Yes. All behavior services begin with a Zoom consultation so we can dig into your dog’s history, current challenges, and goals. It’s the foundation for everything else we do.
Q: How long is the consultation?
90 minutes, via Zoom. It includes a full intake, live discussion, a written plan afterward, and recommendations for next steps.
Q: Do you offer in-person training?
Yes, but only for follow-up sessions. You can come to me, or if you live within a 15-mile radius of Downtown McHenry, I can travel to you. A $25/session travel fee applies outside that radius.
Training Retreats & Behavior Boarding
Q: What’s the difference between a Training Retreat and Behavior Boarding?
Training Retreats include daily behavior work, structure, and progress tracking. Behavior Boarding is for dogs who don’t need active training but still require a calm, understanding place to stay.
Q: How long is a Training Retreat?
A minimum of 3 weeks. This gives your dog time to decompress, learn, and build sustainable behavior change.
Q: Do you board more than one dog at a time?
Nope. One dog at a time for both retreats and boarding—so your dog gets the full focus and the calm environment they deserve.
Q: Is behavior boarding available for any dog?
Only dogs who have completed a behavior consultation or prior intake visit. This ensures your dog’s needs are fully understood before their stay.
Off-Leash Adventures
Q: What’s included in an adventure walk?
Each outing includes pickup and drop-off, trail time, recall practice, enrichment, and photo/video updates of your dog living their best life. All dogs are fitted with a GPS tracking collar in addition to their regular collar or harness for added safety on the trail.
Q: Is a test walk required?
Yes. Before joining the adventure crew, your dog must complete a one-on-one test walk to assess recall, car travel, and social comfort with other dogs.
Q: Can reactive dogs join the adventures?
Dogs must be non-aggressive. Social is not required, but they must be able to coexist peacefully with other dogs on trail. We assess this during the test walk using my own dogs.
Q: What’s the service area for adventures?
Adventure walks are available to clients within 10 miles of Downtown McHenry, IL.
